Why do you blog when you are clearly too dull and boring for words?
This is a question I ask myself too so please don’t feel bad for thinking it. It is true that my life, such as it is, does not produce enough thrills and spills to sustain a really good blog like some of my favourites by Neil Gaiman and Warren Ellis.
This means that I will use this space to talk about things that I find fun, interesting and important. The most I want for this blog is to be somewhere that my friends can find out what I find fun at the moment and then slag me off for doing so. I will stay away from preachiness and my own comments about most modern news stories. I’m not a journalist so you can get that stuff, written in better prose that I could ever hope to generate, from all the usual places.
I have been asked to explain why ‘The Helium Balloon’. The reason behind the name is that it is something I remember from childhood. That overwhelming need for a helium balloon. THe knowledge that my life would be worthless without one. And then when you get it you are so quickly disappointed and disillusioned with not only the balloon but with life itself that you just let go of it and feel slightly depressed. Well that is the feeling I want this blog to create in others. Lets see how it goes.
So use the comments and call me a prick. I enjoy a battle. Mission statement over.
Now on with the ruthless subversion of family values.
